Abstract

658,077. Jib cranes. WULLSCHLEGER, A. Aug. 16, 1949, No. 21338. Convention date, Aug. 17, 1948. [Class 78 (iv)] In a load-lifting device for cranes with vertically adjustable jibs, the load cable pull and the jib lifting mechanism set up in two interconnected rotating bodies oppositely directed torsional moments which counterbalance so that when the rotating bodies are actuated by means of the jib lifting mechanism the handling radius of the jib is altered, the load is horizontally shifted and the weight of the jib is counterbalanced. The jib is pivotally mounted on a pillar 4, 5, 6 and a hauling rope 9 has a hook 7 for the load. The rope 9 is connected at one end to a cable drum 14 and the other end connected to a drum 15. A cable 22 has one end connected to the drum 23 and passes round sheaves 18 and 19 and is connected to the block at the other end. The block is also connected to the jib. On rotating the load cable drums 15, 23, the jib is raised and the diameters of the drums are so chosen that the moments of the forces acting are balanced. The weight of the jib is balanced by weight P, Fig. 4. The load moves along a horizontal path. Instead of pulley tackle, mechanical lifting-gear without cables may be used.
