Abstract

206,407. Cowans, Sheldon, & Co., Ltd., and Branston, J. W. Jan. 13, 1923. Jib cranes. - The load rope 3 passes over a guide-pulley at 8', a pulley at the jib-head, a compensating pulley 1 movable along the jib, and a second pulley at the jib-head. The position of the pulley 1 is controlled by a rope 4 which passes over a pulley 5 on the jib, pulleys at the jib-head and at 8<1>, and is secured at a point 8. The ropes 4 may be duplicated. As the jib is luffed in and part of the rope 4 passes over the jib-head pulley, the compensating loops are shortened. The position 8<1> is so chosen that the load moves in an approximately horizontal path during luffing.
