744,635. Adjustable folding seats. JONES, C. Oct. 12, 1954 [July 12, 1953], No. 16185/53. Class 52(2). An adjustable folding chair comprises a main frame 10 pivoted to a base member 14 and supported by adjustable struts 16, a rigid seat frame 28 being pivoted at the front to links 25 slidably pivoted at 24 to the main frame 10 and the seat frame being supported at the back by a flexible back-rest 38 of adjustable length. By altering the position of the sliding pivots 24 and the length of the back-rest 38, the height of the seat can be varied and by altering the back-rest length only the angle of the seat can be varied. The loop 42 of the backrest can be swung over to form a head rest. A detachable foot-rest 53 on telescopic legs 56 is provided. Arm rests 46 having hinged struts. 49 are slidably pivoted at 47 to the frame 10, the slidable pivot 47 being constrained to move up with the slidable pivots 24 by connecting plates 50. A pin 21 engaging holes 22 holds the struts 16 in adjusted position. The back-rest 38 forms part of or is attached to the padding of the seat frame and the latter frame may be removed so that a single flexible back-rest and seat of the deck-chair type can be provided. Folding is effected by extending the back-rest 38 and then hinging up the seat frame and arm rests, straps being provided to retain the chair in folded form.
