2 Claims. 1
This invention relates to furniture, and more particularly to a combination settee and table.
The object of the invention is to provide an article of furniture which can be used either as a settee or seat for several persons, or the parts can be readily arranged so as to convert the article of furniture into a table or desk.
Another object of the invention is to provide a combination table and settee which is adapted to be used in the kitchen, on the lawn, or other such places where space is at a premium, since the device can be readily converted from a settee to a table and bench, or vice versa.
Another object of the invention is to provide an article of furniture which is extremely simple and inexpensive to manufacture.
Other objects and advantages will become apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this application, and in which like numerals are used to designate like part throughout the same:
Figure 1 is a front elevational View of the article of furniture of the present invention arranged so as to provide a settee;
Figure 2 is a front elevational view of the article of furniture of the present invention arranged so as to provide a table and bench;
Figure 3 is a side elevational view of the settee of Figure 1 Figure 4 is a side elevational view of the table and bench of Figure 2;
Figure 5 is an enlarged sectional View taken on the line 55 of Figure 3.
Referring in detail to the drawings, the numeral l designates a stool which includes a horizontally-disposed seat H that may have suitable cushions or upholstery I 2 thereon, so that several persons can comfortably be seated on the stool. The stool It further includes vertically-disposed,
spaced parallel rear legs !3 and a pair of spaced parallel, vertically-disposed front legs Hi, the legs [3 and I4 serving to support the stool. Extending between the rear and front legs are suitable braces i5, while suitable braces it extend between the pair of rear legs and the pair of front legs and are secured thereto, the braces l and [6 serving to maintain the legs in their proper spaced relation.
Each of the front legs I4 is provided with an elongated roove or recess IT, and, further, each of the front legs I 4 is provided with a pair of opposed slots or cut-outs I8. The cut-outs I8 communicate with the groove [1 for a purpose to be later described.
The combination article of furniture of the present invention further includes a pair of arouate arms I9 which are arranged in spaced parallel relation with respect to each other. One end of each of the arms I9 is shaped to define an eye or ring 20, and a suitable pin 2! projects through the pair of cut-outs l8 and through the one eye 20 of one of the arms l9. Thus, the arms 19 are free to pivot about a horizontal axis, and the eyes 29 can slide or move vertically in the roove ll.
The other end of each of the arms i9 is shaped to define a transverse flange 22, and the flanges 22 are secured to a movable body member 23 by suitable securing elements, such as rivets 24. Suitable upholstery 25 may be secured to one side of the body member 23, so that when the article of furniture is being used as a settee, the body member 23 will form a comfortable back rest, as shown in Figure 3.
In use, the parts of the combination article of furniture can be arranged as shown in Figures 1 and 4, so that a settee is provided. Thus, the body member 23 is in its rearmost position, so that several persons can comfortably sit on the stool iii and the body member 23 serves as a back rest, while members 19 provide comfortable arm rests. Then, if the article of furniture is to be used as a table or desk, the body member 23 is merely swung forwardly or pivoted in a clockwise direction to the position shown in Figures 2 and 4. In this position, the smooth upper surface of the body member 23 provides a convenient table top for persons seated on the stool lo, and the table top or body member is supported by the intermediate portions of the arms It.
What is claimed is:
1. An article of furniture comprising a stool, said stool including a horizontally-disposed seat provided with upholstery thereon, a pair of rear legs and a pair of front legs supporting said stool, horizontally-disposed braces extending between said legs and secured thereto, there being an elongated groove arranged in each of said front legs, said front legs being each provided with a pair of opposed cut-outs communicating with said grooves, a pair of arcuate arms each pro vided with an eye on one end slidably positioned in one of said grooves, a pin extending through one of said eyes and having its ends projecting through said cut-outs, the other end of each of said arms being provided with a transverse flange, and an upholstered body member secured to the flanges of said arms.
2. The apparatus as described in claim 1, wherein said body member is adapted to be swung forwardly and supported by said arms engaging the floor to define a table, and said body member when in its rearmost position 00- acting with said stool to define a settee.
