789,623. Folding chairs. MOTT, G. W. Aug. 31, 1956 [Sept. 2, 1955], No. 25343/55. Class 52(2) A folding chair has two pairs of leg members 11, 12 pivoted at their mid points 13 and connected to transverse braces 14, 15, the upper part of each leg 11 having notches 16, 17, 18 with which a pin 33 mounted on a link 31 pivotally secured to -the rear of one of a pair of strut members 19 may engage, the struts 19 being pivoted to legs 12 and members 26 which are pivotally connected in turn to the seat members 25. Back members 21 are pivoted on the pins and are pivotally connected at their lower ends to the seat members 25. Canvas 24, 28 is stretched between the members 21, 25 respectively or the canvas may be replaced by upholstery. The weight of the occupant urges pin 33 into engagement with a notch but the chair is so formed that the combined length of members 25, 26 is slightly less than the combined length of member 19 measured to pin 33 and the part of member 21 below pin 33 so that when the top of the chairback is pushed forward link 31 pivots forwardly and pin 33 is disengaged from its notch to allow adjustment or folding of the chair.
