[Class 52 (ii)] Folding armchair has an adjustable back and fixed seat, arm rests, legs &c. the back being normally latched in its upright position but may be unlatched by the occupant who then adjusts inclination of back by mere pressure. As shown an armchair comprises U-shaped tubular members pivotally interconnected and comprising back and seat mountings 1, 2 and forward and rear legs 3, 4 together with arms 8 and braces 9 interconnecting the legs 3, 4. To the rear of the seat mounting 2 is secured at each side a lug or clevis 6 to which the rear legs 4 are pivoted while the back mounting 1 is pivoted at each side to a socket 5 which is slidable on the seat mounting 2 the socket 5 having a tubular extension 18 which houses a spring 16 abutting against the socket 5 and a shoulder 17 on the seat mounting 2. A lever and latch is provided at each side operating on the socket 5 and seat mounting 2 at the part wherein the back mounting is more nearly upright. To adjust the back mounting 1 the occupant releases the latches and by pressure moves the back mounting 1 to any desired position. On leaving the seat the spring 16 returns the back mounting 1 to the upright position in which it is automatically locked by the latches. In a modification leg and foot rests are provided which adjust themselves to the position of the back mounting 1.
