612,580. Folding seats. HEATON, T. an d PRITCHARD, E. M. May 28, 1946, No. 16211. [Class 52(ii)] A folding chair which may be moved from the sitting to the reclining posifrom the sitting to the reclining position by the occupant comprises side frames A, back frame B pivoted intermediate of its ends to the side frames, the side frames A each consisting of a top member 1, a front leg 2 and a back leg 3 pivoted to the front leg, a seat frame C pivoted at the rear to the lower ends of the back frame and at the front to a pair of depending links 15 which are also pivoted to the top members 1. The lower ends of the front legs 2 are interconnected by a cross member 5 and the rear ends of the back legs 3 are connected to the top members 1 by pivoted braces 4. In folding the chair the back frame is brought forwardly on to the top members 1 causing the seat frame C and depending links 15 to be retracted, the links 15 engaging the cross member 5 of the front legs which are accordingly retracted taking with them the rear legs 3. In unfolding the reverse operation takes place a cross bar 30 under the seat frame C engaging and moving the legs to operative position as the seat frame moves forwardly. The surfaces of the seat and back may comprise transverse webbing 17, 19, 20 together with longitudinal webbing overlaying the transverse webbing. Foot rest D is provided.
