Abstract

581,211. Chairs. GOUGH, F. H., and FISHER, S.W. May 15, 1944, No. 9288. [Class 52 (ii)] In a chair &c. of the kind in which a seat frame 1 is hinged to a back frame 13 so that an occupant can vary the angular positions of the seat and back, arm rests 21 are pivoted to the back frame and to front supporting struts 30 pivoted to the seat frame, the pivoted connection between the arm rest and the strut being provided with locking means. In the construction shown in Fig. 4, a peg 36, on a spring tongue 39 carried by each arm rest selectively engages one of a number of holes in a block 34 carried by each strut 30. In a modification the arm and strut carry apertured discs engaged by pegs carried by a sliding member. As shown in Fig. 2 the front end of the seat frame 1 is pivoted to legs 6 with base members 8 to which are pivoted rear struts 9 pivoted to the back rest. The chair can be folded by disengaging the locking means. According to the Provisional Specification, the base members 8 are dispensed with and rearwardly sloping struts, pivoted to the legs 6, provided.
