Abstract

706,848. Magnetrons. ENGLISH. ELECTRIC VALVE CO., Ltd. Oct. 30, 1951 [Jan. 11, 1951], No. 854/51. Class 39(1) A magnetron of the " packaged " type, i.e. wherein the envelope is completed by members of magnetic material forming part of the magnetic circuit, has part of a pole-piece insulated from the anode structure and so positioned as to be adapted to act as an end cap to prevent electrons straying from the anodecathode space, this part being within and insulated from another part of the same polepiece. As shown in Fig. 3 the pole-pieces may comprise outer parts 6a connected to the anode structure, and concentric inner parts 6b insulated from the outer parts. One of the parts 6b is provided with a hole large enough to pass the cathode structure in manufacture and accommodates the cathode supports; it is preferably connected to the cathode. The other inner part 6b may be similarly formed and may be connected to the cathode, either internally or externally, or it may be left floating.
