Abstract
629,077. Thermionic valves. CROOK, L. H. Oct. 28, 1947, No. 28797. Convention date, June 30, 1942. [Class 39 (i)] At least one electrode of a discharge tube has connected to it a conductive shielding conduit entering the envelope and housing externally of the envelope the electric current source of the electrode; the shielding conduit may be shaped within the envelope to effect electrostatic screening of the electrode. Fig. 1 shows a triode inside a spherical glass envelope 14. There is a spherical anode 13 and hemispherical grid 12 and cathode 17. The vacuum space is limited by seals 48, 49, 53. The cathode has a hemispherical shield 20 which extends outside the envelope and forms a container for the heating battery 18. The grid and anode have similar shields extending to containers for batteries 30, 40. The grid and anode may be coupled to external circuits by transformers 34, 44, the windings of which are coupled by the magnetic cores 36, 46.
