Abstract
495,846. Thermionic rectifiers. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Feb. 12, 1937, No. 4223. Void. Convention date, Feb. 12, 1936. [Class 39 (i)] To prevent a continuous film of sputtered material being formed on the envelope of a gas filled rectifier, the envelope may have a portion 11 of wider diameter than those 1, 1<1> enclosing the anode 5 and cathode 9. The latter may be of the kind described in Specification 309,447, [Class 39 (i)], rings 6 to shield the stem 2 are mounted on the anode lead 4. In another arrangement spaced rings may be placed against the envelope opposite the discharge space. As shown in Fig. 3, concentric shield cylinders 29, 30 inside the envelope surround both anode 26 and cathode 28 ; an electrostatic control electrode 27 with lead 27<1> is placed in the discharge path and a further outside control ring 32 may be used. In a further construction two enlarged envelope portions such as described with reference to Fig. 1, are formed along the envelope and are used with a central electrostatic control electrode ; a discharge control grid is placed about a filamentary cathode.
