Abstract

652,996. Thermionic valves. RADIO CORPORATION OF AMERICA. Feb. 9, 1948, No. 3759. Convention date, Dec. 4, 1946. [Class 39 (i)] An anode 12 has a sloping edge, its lead-in 18 being connected to an ear 39 at the wider end. The electron discharge device shown has two such anodes, which may be curved for added strength, with respective lead-ins 18, 19 connected together as at 20. Electrons from the cathode 16 impinge on the anode within the area enclosed in dotted lines, the shape of the anode providing more efficient heat conduction to the lead-in 18 when connected at the more remote corner of the wider end. Insulating plates 21, 22 support between them the anodes, suppressor grids 13, screen grid 14 and signal grid 27, lead-in 34 for the latter entering the top of the envelope. Each suppressor grid 13 extends above the top spacer 22 in a portion 23 having an ear 25, providing a shield between the supporting ear 24 of the anode and the signal grid lead 34. Anode/signal grid shielding is also provided below the lower spacer 21 by a curved shield 26 connected to the suppressor grid, the cathode, and lead-ins 28, 29. The shortness of the anodes leads-in allowed by their taper further assists the reduction of capacity effects.
