Abstract
619,767. Thermionic valves. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Dec. 20, 1945, No. 34581. Convention date, Dec. 29, 1944. [Class 39 (i)] In an electron discharge device in which all the electrode leads pass through a base member of the envelope, the base member supports a metal tube in which are mounted a cathode, a control grid and an anode, all being planar and parallel, and which shields the anode lead from the other electrodes and their leads. As shown in Fig. 1, the planar electrodes 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 of a pentode are supported inside the metal cylinder 3 which is mounted on the base plate 2 of the envelope 1. The suppressor grid 5 is directly connected to the cylinder 3, the screen grid 6 is connected to the cylinder through byepass condenser formed by an insulating washer 13 and a flange 12 on the screen grid supporting disc 11, and the cathode 8 is connected to the cylinder through a byepass condenser formed by an insulating washer 17, the flanged base portion 16 of the cathode and a metal washer 17<1> contacting the cylinder. The anode lead 27 passing down the outside of the cylinder 3, and the other electrode leads passing down inside the cylinder, are sealed through the base plate 2. The electrodes and the members supporting them may be assembled in the cylinder 3 by pressing them together to form a composite electrode structure, Fig. 2 (not shown), the insulating washer 13 being extended to separate the screen grid supporting disc 11 from the suppressor grid supporting disc 10.
