Abstract

585,448. Thermionic valves. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., and FOSTER, J. June 13, 1941, No. 7493. [Class 39 (i)] Thermionic valves particularly for ultrahigh frequency operation, comprise an envelope separated into two portions 1, 2 by an apertured metal disc 3 which extends outside the valve. The anode 12 which may be thimble-shaped is sealed to the outer end of one envelope portion. A unitary structure comprising mica plates 8 on which the grid and cathode are carried is mounted on a pinch 6 on the other portion. The grid is wound on supporting wires 7, and is connected electrically with the disc 3 by springs. The lower turns of the grid wires are cut away to enable the cathode to be brought close to the operative side of the grid. The disc 3 is earthed and functions to screen the input and output sides of the valve from one another ; it may also provide the support for the valve. Specification 585,447 is referred to.
