Abstract

445,084. Thermionic valves. TELEFUNKEN GES. FUR DRAHTLOSE TELEGRAPHIE, 12, Hallesches Ufer, Berlin. Aug. 21, 1935, No. 23524. Convention date, Aug. 21, 1934. [Class 39 (i)] In. split-anode magnetrons for generating ultrashort waves, four or more anode segments are connected together in pairs by short connections at both ends. A resonant system such as Lecher wires L is connected at its two poles to such interconnected pairs of segments S<1>1, S<11>1, S<1>2, S<11>2 and is excited due to the negative resistance effect resulting from the gaps between adjacent anode segments. Self-oscillations arising in the connected pairs of segments reduce the efficiency when the generated frequency is increased towards the frequency of such self-oscillations and the latter frequency is increased by the connections at both ends. Disturbances due to peripheral self-oscillations in individual anode segments are reduced by connecting together the pairs of segments by more than one wire at both ends. These wires may be replaced by metal strips C, D apertured to pass the cathode K and spaced apart to avoid capacity effects. The strip C connecting the pair S<1>1, S<11>1 is outside the other strip D at one end and inside the corresponding strip D at the other end so that the segments are of equal length, and the emissive area of the cathode K is restricted to avoid waste currents passing to the strips. More than four anode segments may be connected into two groups by interconnecting at their crossing points the connections between pairs of segments or by star-shaped discs at the ends of the segments.
