Abstract
672,724. Travelling-wave tubes. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL, Ltd. July 20, 1949 [July 23, 1948], No. 19113/49. Class 39 (i). A travelling-wave tube has the electron beam travelling on the inside and outside of one or more helical coils. The beam from the heated cathode 3 passes through the apertured nickel cup 5, and a nickel-iron tube 6 to a copper tube 8 having plates 9 fitted across and supporting one or more tungsten coils 12. Where six coils are used as shown, they all have the same pitch, but are wound alternately left and righthanded and spaced by approximately 1¢-2 times the diameter of the coils.
