Abstract

657,140. X-ray tubes. EHRENBERG, W., and SPEAR, W. E. Nov. 18, 1948, No. 30006. [Class 39 (i)] An X-ray tube has an electron-optical system designed to give a very fine focus on the anticathode. A hairpin filament 1 is positioned inside a cylindrical tube 2 which carries a cathode screen 3, the tube 2 extending beyond the screen. The whole, including the anticathode 4, is surrounded by a cylinder 5. The fila- ment may have a small positive bias with respect to tube 2. Cylinder 5 has substantially the same potential as tube 2. Suitable values for dimensions a, b, c and d are given by way of example. In the arrangement of Fig. 2 (not shown), an additional electrode having a central aperture not very different from that of tube 2 is placed close to the latter.
