Abstract

900,363. Cathode-ray storage tubes. ENGLISH ELECTRIC VALVE CO. Ltd. Dec. 13, 1960 [March 15, 1960], No. 9085/60. Class 39 (1). In a direct viewing signal storage tube the flood gun 7 is positioned between the writing gun 6 and the storage electrode 3 and the cathode of the flood gun is formed of a grid or mesh so that the writing beam passes through it. The flood gun consists of a directly or indirectly heated cathode grid 71 of high transparency and an anode grid 72 also of high transparency. The anode grid 72 may be replaced by a wall anode. The cathode 71 may consist of heater wires mounted parallel to one another in zig-zag fashion across an annular mica mount fitted concentrically in the tube neck. Grid 4 is a secondary electron collector and an accelerator grid 5 may be provided between the storage electrode 3 and the fluorescent screen 2 as in Specification 890,627. The tube is immersed in a longitudinal magnetic field provided by coils 8 and 9 so that the flood electrons are distributed normally and uniformly over the storage electrode. The flood gun is continuously on. The writing beam is aligned on the axis of the tube by the coil 10 and is deflected by the coil system 11. The signals to be stored may be used to modulate the writing beam, the collector electrode 4 or the metal grid 31 of the storage electrode 3.
