Abstract
642,083. Cathode-ray tubes. COSSOR, Ltd., A. C., and WOODBRIDGE, L. A. Dec. 28, 1944, No. 25964. [Class 39 (i)] A cathode-ray tube has apertures in the anode or first anode and also preferably in the grid of the electron gun off-set to one side of the tube axis and magnetic field means for deflecting the beam to the desired path in order to prevent negative ions from reaching the fluorescent or other screen of the tube. In the construction shown the parallel rods 2 and spaced insulating discs 3 support the grid 5 with off-set aperture 12 in dished portion, the first anode 8 with off-set aperture 13, the cylindrical shield portion 9 and the anode diaphragm 10 with central aperture 14. A permanent or electromagnet is arranged to develop in the cylinder 6 a magnetic field for deflecting the electron beam into coincidence or parallelism with the axis 11-11 before it emerges from the aperture 14, the negative ions collecting on the inner wall 9 of the cylinder 6. The aperture 13 overlaps the aperture 12 in a direction parallel with the axis 11-11 and the cathode 4 and grid aperture 12 lie in or closely adjacent the plane of the supporting insulating disc 3 to avoid effects of tilting of the disc 3.
