Abstract
1292966 Cathode-ray display tubes PHILCOFORD CORP 31 Oct 1969 [31 Oct 1968] 53480/69 Heading H1D An electron beam device comprises a luminescent screen arranged such that the beam is always at an acute angle to the screen and an electron gun including control and screen electrodes each with elongate apertures 39, 41 to render the beam spot on the screen less elongate. The gun comprises stainless steel cup-shaped electrodes 38, 40, focusing and accelerating electrodes 42, 44 and a thermionic cathode 46 mounted on glass insulating rods 52, 54. The apertures 39, 41 are elliptical or rectangular. The electrodes 42, 44 may also be elliptical and the cathode may emit an electron beam of elliptical cross-section. Electrodes 42, 44 may be replaced by a 3-electrode einzel lens. The screen comprises a phosphor coated with Al. The beam is deflected by pairs of electrostatic plates or electromagnetic coils inside or outside the tube. The device may be a storage tube.
