Abstract
908,524. Cathode-ray tubes. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Feb. 9, 1959 [Feb. 12, 1958], No. 4445/59. Class 39 (1). An indicator tube for the display of patterns, e.g. numerals, on a fluorescent screen E, comprises an electron source C 1 , C 2 , pattern-forming means including a conductive anode A having apertures of the patterns to be reproduced and a plurality of grids G 1 , G 2 so arranged that each grid, by means of a potential applied thereto, can control the flow of electrons to a corresponding anode aperture, and focusing means B for concentrating the beam or beams passing through anode A on to the fluorescent screen. As shown, the anode A has ten apertures of a shape corresponding to the digits 0 to 9, and the flow of electrons from cathodes C 1 , C 2 is controlled by ten independent grids G 1 , G 2 supported by insulating members S 1 -S 4 , so that electrons may pass through any one of the apertures in anode A, and a magnifying electronoptical system B to the same part of luminescent screen E. Alternatively, the apertures may be arranged around the periphery of anode A, the grids being supported between two insulating rings, Fig. 2 (not shown). In a further arrangement, the anode has twelve slots, digit 2, for example, being formed from slots P 1 -P 5 , Fig. 3.
