Abstract
802,960. Image intensifier tubes. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Dec. 16, 1955 [Dec. 21, 1954], No. 36152/55. Class 39(1). An electron image tube comprises a tubular glass envelope 1, 2, a photo-electric cathode 3, a fluorescent anode screen 4, at least one tubular electrode 6, disposed coaxially with the beam between the cathode and the anode, the electrode 6 being supported from the envelope by a metal support 7 and being axially spaced from the anode 4 to leave a space X in which the electron beam is not surrounded by an electrode, and a conductive shield 8 on the outer surface of the envelope 1, 2, in registry with the space X, which is conductively connected, e.g., by the support 7, with the electrode 6 so as to provide a conductive tubular enclosure for the space X to compensate for any wall charge 10 on the envelope which may laterally deflect the beam. As shown, the tube has two tubular accelerating electrodes 6, 7a and the space X is located between them. The shield 8 may be provided with an insulating sheath 9.
