Abstract

743,181. Cathode-ray tubes. RAULAND CORPORATION. July 2, 1952 [July 3, 1951], No. 16639/52. Class 39 (1). A'cathode-ray receiving tube of the electrostatically focused type comprises cathode 13, control electrode 14, first and second anodes 15, 16 and an electrostatic " unipotential " lens comprising auxiliary electrode 20, lens electrode 19 and a further electrode 17 forming part of anode 16, as described in Specification 715,235, wherein there is provided an additional electrode 21 connected to electrode 20 and to wall coating 22 and positioned between electrode 20 and the fluorescent screen, the two outer lens electrodes 17, 19 being symmetrically arranged with respect to the central plane normal to the beam path of the lens electrode 19. The conductive wall coating 22 terminates near electrode 21 so as to avoid sparking between electrode 19 and the wall coating, and electrode 21 is connected thereto by metal spacer springs 23, and electrode 21 is supported from and connected to electrodes 17, 20 by metal strips 27. Getters 31 are supported from disc 21 which also serves as a shield to prevent conducting deposits on the two glass electrode support pillars 24 when the getters are flashed during processing of the tube.
