Abstract
1505563 Cathode ray display tube TEKTRONIX Inc 16 May 1975 [5 July 1974] 20776/75 Heading H1D A cathode ray tube comprises two side-byside parallel guns in the horizontal plane, independent pairs of horizontal plates 40, 41 and independent vertical deflection means 32, 33 for each gun, the axis of symmetry of each pair of horizontal deflection plates converging to the central axis, and beam centring plates 36, 37 between the vertical and horizontal plates directing the beams through the horizontal plates so that the electrical and physical centres of the deflection members coincide. For operation above 150 MHz, the vertical deflection means is delay line apparatus as in U.S. patent Specification 3,694,689. Fig. 1 also includes glass or ceramic envelope 12, phosphor screen 14 with A1 coating 18, focussing anodes 28, 29, mounting and shielding member 50 at near ground potential shielding the vertical plates from h.v. p.d.a. anode 54, and scan expansion mesh 58 ensuring full overlap operation of the two beams. Arcuate configurations of plates 36, 37 corrects vertical trace bowing by the mesh (Fig. 2, not shown). Additional control is possible by variable potentials to compensator plates 70, 71 to compensate for part tolerances and misalignment. Plate 75 prevent interference between plate pairs 32, 33, and intergun shield 80 prevents electrostatic field interferences and minimizes capacitance between plates 40, 41 to reduce h.f. cross-talk. Shield 80 with shields 82, 84, 85 corrects battery distortions, especially keystone type while further correction may be provided by arcuate exit edges on plates 40, 41. In Figs. 3, 4, 5 (not shown), slotted half-discs (120), (121) insulatively attached to shield (80) isolates plates 40, 41 from p.d.a. anode 54. The components may be assembled by spot-welded legs (125), mutually isolated by glass beads (128) and inner shield 82 comprises two separate insulated shield members (130), (131). The assembly is mounted between inner horizontal plate support rods (134), (136) by legs (140) spot welded to shield (80), which has scalloped edges, and embedded in the rods. Conductive paint bands (150) complete shielding and minimize capacitance. Phosphor layer 14 may also function as a storage dielectric.
