Abstract
769,356. Cathode ray tubes. RAULAND CORPORATION. Feb. 21, 1955 [Feb. 19, 1954], No. 5096/55. Class 39(1). The envelope of a C.R.T. is provided internally with an index member or pin to locate and maintain a multi-beam electron gun in a predetermined position relative to the target enabling replacement thereof. The mounting ring and bracket 17, 18 supporting the colour target 14 and parallax screen 16 are held between a bulb section 11 and a faceplate 19, location elements 20 on the envelope engaging in mating apertures in the brackets 18 so that when the assembly is sealed, the target 13 is in a fixed predetermined position within the tube. The electron gun comprises three guns held between support rods 28, the 'whole centred in the tube neck by resilient retaining members 29. A bifurcated bracket 34 is formed as an attachment to the convergence electrode 27 and resiliently engages a pin 33 secured in the envelope during manufacture. With glass-metal envelopes a jig is accurately located inside the tube and a small metallic pin hot enough to melt the glass of the tube neck is pushed from the outside through the neck into the locating hole of the jig, Fig. 3 (not shown). The outside end of the pin lies beneath the surface of the envelope. Alternatively the glass is melted locally and the pin forced through and into position in the jig.
