Abstract

974,974. Electron beam apparatus. RADIO CORPORATION OF AMERICA. Oct. 20, 1961 [Nov. 14, 1960], No. 37743/61. Heading H1D. A cathode-grid assembly for an electron gun comprises a tubular cathode 32, closed at one 'end, and extending through an aperture in a ceramic washer 44, a support sleeve 48 coaxially surrounding and fixed to the cathode and brazed to a metallized surface portion 52 of washer 44, and a grid cup 30 coaxially surrounding, and fixed to washer 44 by a mounting sleeve 46. As shown, the grid cup 30 is spotwelded to a mounting sleeve 46 brazed to an annular metallized area 50 of washer 44. Annular groove 54 and ridge 56 on the washer reduce the possibility of electrical leakage between grid and cathode. Support sleeve 48 has only a short section 62 in contact with the washer to minimize thermal conduction between these two parts. A colour television tube may comprise three electron guns each including a cathode-grid assembly as shown, a screen grid, a focusing electrode, and an accelerating electrode fixed to a dynamic convergence cage, Fig. 1 (not shown).
