Abstract
799,533. Multi-beam cathode-ray tubes. SYLVANIA ELECTRIC PRODUCTS, Inc. Dec. 2, 1955 [Dec. 6, 1954], No. 34635/55. Class 39(1). A multi-beam cathode-ray tube, particularly for colour television using an apertured mask has a bi-potential lens with unsymmetrical convergence field at the points of entry of the beams into the lens. The lens is formed by the cup-shaped convergence electrode 52 and the wall anode 26 of the tube or a cylinder supported by the gun mount and at the same potential as the wall anode, the cup 52 being shortened axially and given a potential such that the field is shaped as in Fig. 4, i.e., so that the entering beam is nearly normal to the equipotential lines. In an alternative form, Fig. 5, an axial pin 68 of the desired shape or size produces a modified field shape shown by equipotential lines 72. The dimensions and potentials of the electrodes and the desired shaping of the convergence field are discussed in the Specification.
