Abstract

675,868. Cathode-ray tubes. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. July 21,1950 [Aug. 4, 1949], No. 20280/49. Class 39 (i). A television pick-up tube 1 of the kind adapted to operate with cathode potential stabilization and including a target 6, 7, 8, and an electron gun 2, is provided with a stabilizing electrode 9 comprising a conductive structure provided on the side facing the target 6, 7, 8 with an electrically highly resistive coating, e.g. slightly conductive glass. A potential is applied to the conductive structure of the stabilizing electrode so as to prevent elemental areas of the target from being charged to such high potentials that the beam of electrons on scanning the target would be liable to release one or more secondary electrons for each incident beam in the scanning beam, the effect of the resistive coating being to produce to a smooth asymptotic characteristic relating signal output to illumination of the target. A mesh 15 at anode 3 potential may be provided for the purpose.of preventing the passage of positive ions from the gun 2 to the target 6, 7, 8. Specification 657,634 is referred to.
