Abstract

1330448 Electron guns PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 29 June 1972 [2 July 1971] 30428/72 Heading H1D An electron gun for a vidicon comprises a cathode 30 (Fig. 3), a grid 31, an anode 32 having an aperture the smallest diameter of which is at most 0À150 mm. and at least equal to the diameter of the beam, and a hollow cylindrical electrode 35 provided with a diaphragm 36 having an aperture the smallest diameter of which is at most 10% of the distance between it and the anode aperture. As illustrated the anode may comprise an apertured plate covered by a foil 42 including an aperture of 0À1 mm. diameter, the foil acting to intercept the beam of electrons returned from the target whilst allowing uninterrupted passage of the primary electron beam 38. The beam forms a cross-over at 39 and continues as a beam 40 which is restricted to the portion 41 by the diaphragm 36.
