Abstract

1336970 Image pick-up tubes PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 29 June 1972 [2 July 1971] 30429/72 Heading H1D A vidicon provided with a cylindrical electrode 8 between the electron gun and the target and including a diaphragm 15 containing an aperture 16 which restricts the cross-section of the beam, is characterized in that the part of the diaphragm not immediately adjacent the axis makes an acute angle with the axis. Preferably, as illustrated, the diaphragm is a truncated cone. The beam 18 returning from the target generally impinges on the conical part and secondary electrons 19 produced by the impact tend to travel away from the target. The part 17 of the diaphragm gives rise to a secondary beam which is directed towards the target and should be small enough to ensure that the secondary beam does not impinge on areas not scanned by the primary beam; if the scanned raster is 6 x 8 mm the diameter of part 17 should be less than 4 mm and may be 2 mm.
