Abstract
1,181,219. Cathode-ray tubes. TELEFUNKEN PATENTVERWERTUNGS G.m.b.H. 11 Jan., 1967 [28 Jan., 1966; 3 March, 1966], No. 1458/67. Heading H1D. A cathode-ray tube comprises a vacuum envelope with a neck portion 411 housing an electron gun and connected to the widened tube portion 415 at a point remote from the target end of the neck portion so that the latter projects into portion 423. An electrostatic accelerator lens of high refractive power is formed by an annular first electrode 421 in the projecting neck portion and an annular second electrode 418 mounted in the widened tube portion. These electrodes may be wall coatings or metal cylinders and are preferably axially symmetrical. First electrode 421 may have flange-like, annular or diaphragm-like extensions. Electrode 418 may cover wholly or partially the conical portion of the wall and preferably, the screen and cathode ends of electrodes 421 and 418 respectively overlap and similarly the screen end 420 of the projecting neck portion and the cathode end of the second electrode may overlap. Further electrode 414 serves to extract electrons from the gun region allowing a lower potential on electrode 421 to increase the refractive power of the first and second electrode lens combination. Also the potential dip at electrode 421 repels slow secondary electrons from the deflector plates. The projecting neck portion may be of reduced diameter (Figs. 2, 3 and 6, not shown). In Fig. 5 (not shown), a lens (53) such as a unipotential lens, produces an intermediate image (56) smaller, the same or up to twice the size of the cross-over point (52). The deflector plates are preferably between the image forming lens (53) and the accelerator lens (57). C.r.t.'s with luminescent screens and storage electrode targets are mentioned.
