Abstract

562,149. Cathode-ray tubes. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. Dec. 17, 1942, No. 17965. Convention date, Aug. 29, 1941. [Class 39 (i)] In a television pick-up tube having a mosaic target M, a source of electrons 4 and means G for forming these into a beam of low velocity electrons and means 24 and 26 for causing the beam to scan the target, further means are provided for providing an auxiliary reservoir of electrons which are under such control that they are drawn to particles of the screen which are subjected to light of abnormal intensity. They thus neutralize charged portions on the screen that the normal scanning beam cannot deal with alone. In the arrangement shown, the auxiliary supply consists of a second electron gun V which is maintained at a different potential from the main gun G so that its electrons will not reach target M unless this has an abnormal positive charge. In another construction, the auxiliary electrons are supplied by an electron-emissive ring electrode surrounding the scanning beam. This in a similar manner to the other construction is maintained at a more positive potential than the main electron supply in order that electrons therefrom only pass to portions of the screen that are abnormally positive.
