Abstract

498,867. Cathode-ray tubes. FARNSWORTH TELEVISION, Inc. Oct. 29, 1937, No. 29590. Convention date, Nov. 2, 1936. [Class 39 (i)] In a television system signals are generated by focusing the light image on a photo-electric, apertured screen 4 and the electrons emitted are accelerated towards a mica or glass storage electrode 6 by a screen electrode 6. The electrode 6 is provided with a rear coating 7 of metal, and due to the formation of the charge image on the front surface of the electrode, a current flows from the coating through a resistance 24. An electron beam from a gun 15 scans the storage electrode 6, which emits secondary electrons ; these pass to the electrode 5, the point scanned being thereby raised to a positive potential which is the same over the whole surface, so that a displacement current flows in the resistance 24 which, as any particular point is scanned, is proportional to the intensity of the charge image at that point. The light image passes through the electrode 6 and coating 7.
