Abstract

1,030,708. Electron guns. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. March 1, 1963 [March 7, 1962], No. 8317/63. Heading H1D. An electron gun for e.g. a C.R.T. display tube comprises a multipactor. A secondary electron-emitting cathode 3 and an apertured electrode 5 (which may also be a secondary emitter) shaped as shown and arranged on opposite sides of an anode ring 4 are energized from an R.F. source, whereby electrons make repeated trips and multiply therebetween to produce an intense beam of electrons escaping through the aperture in electrode 5. A conventional control electrode 13 and accelerating anodes 15 is shown. In an alternative arrangement, Fig. 2 (not shown), the cathode 3 and apertured electrode 5 are mounted on the end walls of a cavity resonator excited by a loop 33.
