Abstract

1,019,103. Colour television tubes. RADIO CORPORATION OF AMERICA. June 19, 1963 [July 6, 1962], No. 24473/63. Heading H1D. In a multi-gun cathode-ray tube, e.g. for colour television, the guns each comprise a sector-shaped electrode 60, Fig. 2, with bent-up tabs 42 so that the corresponding electrodes of the guns can be compactly juxtaposed with adjacent tabs 42, facing each other and extending outwardly to insulator supports rods. The sets of control grids and screen grids may each be assembled in this way on three common support rods. Each gun comprises a cathode 74, Fig. 4 (not shown), a cathode support 72, a control grid 27 and a screen grid 28 whose mounting tabs extend axially in the opposite direction to those of the control grid and of the cathode support. Each gun further includes a focus electrode 29. The cathode 74 and the cathode support 72 may be of dissimilar metals and heat expansion without permanent distortion is taken up by providing the end of the support 72 with three circumferentially spaced dimples 82. An annular boss 64 formed in control grid 27 provides electrostatic shielding and also prevents the deposition of cathode material on the insulator support rods 32, while an annular boss 64 formed in the screen grid 28 forms with the focus electrode 29 a up-shaped convergent prefocusing electrostatic field. A four-gun as well as the three-gun system shown in the drawings is mentioned specifically.
