Abstract

950,439. Cathode-ray storage tubes. FAIRCHILD CAMERA & INSTRUMENT CORPORATION. Oct. 29, 1962 [Nov. 13, 1961], No. 40828/62. Heading H1D. The deflection plates 12, 13 of a direct view cathode-ray signal storage tube 10 are electrically shielded from the flood-gun electron stream by the accelerating electrode 21 of the writing gun, which electrode supports the elements 17 ... 20 of this gun comprising respectively the cathode unit, first and second anodes and a focusing electrode. The flood gun cathode unit 22 is positioned axially approximately coincident with the electrode 21 but is insulated therefrom. The flood gun also includes an accelerating electrode 23 and the gun elements may be supported by either of the electrodes 21, 23 but are insulated from both. Electrodes 21, 23 comprise conductive discs having aligned windows 21a, 22a to pass the writing gun beam. The storage grid 14 comprises wire mesh having a dielectric coating 14a, and the tube 10 further includes a fluorescent screen 15 with a metallic coating 16, and a collector electrode 9. A schematic representation of the apparatus of Fig. 1 is also described, Fig. 2 (not shown).
