Abstract

721,583. Electric discharge tubes. TELEFONAKTIEBOLAGET L. M. ERICSSON. June 21, 1950 [June 21, 1949]. No. 15514/50. Class 39 (1). Electron tube arrangement comprises a cylindrical cathode K, a plurality of control electrodes S 1 -S 10 substantially radially directed to the cathode and disposed within an annulus coaxial with the cathode, a plurality of receiving electrodes P 1 -P 10 alternating with the control electrode's in such a way that each compartment formed between two adjacent control electrodes contains one receiving electrode located in that part of the compartment which is farthest from the cathode, means arranged outside the electron tube envelope H for producing a magnetic field parallel to the axis of the cathode, means for applying a positive voltage to the control electrodes, and means for selectively reducing the positive voltage on any of the control electrodes, the arrangement being characterized in that the ratio between the diameter of the cathode d k , Fig. 3a, and the distance between the parts nearest to the cathode of two diametrically opposite control electrodes d s lies substantially between 0.01 and 0.65. The least values of this ratio required to obtain a full cathode current to the receiving electrodes at zero control electrode potential are stated to be 0.01, 0.32 and 0.65 for 10, 12 and 14 control electrodes respectively. The circuit connections not shown in the Figure are as in Specification 709,264.
