542,497. Cathode-ray tubes; scanning circuits. McGEE, J. D., MILLER, H., and FREEMAN, G. S. P. May 2, 1940, No. 5441/41. Divided out of 542,488. [Classes 39 (i) and 40 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXVI] In connection with a cathode-ray tube in which the ray is projected within a uniform axially directed magnetic field, for example as described in Specification 530,409, and scanning deflections are imparted to the ray by a transverse electrostatic field between a pair of electrodes 5, the circuit supplying the scanning voltages to the electrodes 5 is provided with means for adjusting the voltage relation of the electrodes to adjust the neutral or central position of the scanning field. As shown in Fig. 1, the electrodes 5 are connected to the ends of a high resistance 11 fed in push-pull through condensers 7 from tubes 8 having load resistances 9. A centre tapping 12 on the resistance 11 is connected to the bias voltage source 6 to which is also connected the anode 4 of the cathode-ray tube; and this tapping is adjustable. In a modification, the condensers 7 and resistances 9 are omitted, the resistance 11 being connected directly to the tubes 8 to act as load resistance therefor, and the tapping connections being consequentially modified.
