Abstract

1,076,313. Thermionic valves. COMPAGNIE FRANCAISE THOMSON-HOUSTON. Aug. 4, 1964 [Aug. 6, 1963], No. 30452/64. Heading H1D. In an electron tube comprising a number of coaxial, annular electrodes 1, 2, 3 having electrode terminals 5, 6, 7 connectable outside the tube with corresponding coaxial conductors forming resonant circuits therewith, at least one annular element 9 is arranged within the tube, coaxially between two electrodes, to provide a circumferential path of relatively high electrical resistance for damping out unwanted TE mode oscillation in the resonant circuits. As shown, a triode comprises a modesuppressor element 9 in the form of two semicircular wires of " Kovar " (Trade Mark) connected at their ends to anode 3. Alternatively a continuous " Kovar " ring may be supported between the grids of a tetrode valve by three posts secured to the screen grid, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown), or between the screen grid and anode. The element 9 should have a total circumferential resistance of at least 10 ohms for alternating currents in the operating frequency range above 1000 Mc., and may contact an electrode over its whole circumference. Also two suppressor elements 9 may be provided, one between the cathode and control grid, and the other between the screen grid and anode of a tetrode.
