Abstract
820,885. Thermionic valves. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO. Ltd. Jan. 19, 1956 [Jan. 27, 1955], No. 2554/55. Class 39(1). An arc discharge device has an apertured barrier acting as a control electrode, and a further baffle member between said barrier member and the cathode ; the aperture is in the form of a continuous slot distributed uniformly over the area of the barrier member, and having an area at least 25% more than the area of an annular slot of the same width. Fig. 6 shows the diagrammatic arrangement of anode 2, apertured barrier 4 (and 8), further baffle 4a, and cathode 1. The aperture may take the form of a spiral, Fig. 7, or an annular slot with radiating arms, Fig. 10, or may be given a " stepped " formation by projecting bars 23, 24, Fig. 13, The width of the slot is determined by the required control ratio.
