Abstract

1,258,337. Electron guns. SONY CORP. 17 April, 1969, No. 19675/69. Heading H1D. In a colour television tube comprising three cathodes 14-16 aligned with respective apertures in a control grid G1 and in a focusing grid G2, the cut-off voltage of the centre cathode 15 may differ from that of the outer cathodes due to the higher electric field produced at the cathode by a high-potential focusing electrode (G3, not shown); this is avoided by making the centre aperture g1G in the first grid G1 and possibly also that in the second grid G2 smaller than the other two apertures (Fig. 3, not shown), or by displacing the centre cathode 15 and/or the centre aperture g2G in the grid G2 further from the grid G1 as shown in Fig. 4C.
