The colour switching electrode arrangement of Specification 1,175,698 is modified by the provision of low resistance coatings (36a, 36b, 37a, 37b, Fig. 1, not shown) disposed on the inner tube surface opposite the deflection electrodes (9a, 9b, 10a, 10b), these coatings being themselves surrounded by high resistance coatings (20).
