Abstract

1279524 Colour television tubes SONY CORP 30 June 1970 [30 June 1969] 31760/70 Heading H1D In a colour television tube of the type wherein three coplanar beams pass through the centre of a common focusing lens L, Fig. 4, the centre cathode is operated at a higher potential than the other two cathodes in order to compensate for the different focusing effect of the main lens L and the pre-focusing lens L<SP>1</SP> (if provided) on the outer beams and on the centre beam. In Fig. 4, the centre cathode K G is supplied from potentiometer 12 with a potential of about 400V, whereas the outer cathodes K R and K B are supplied with near zero potential from potentiometers 11 and 13; video signals are supplied to the cathodes at terminals t R , t B and t G . The pre-focusing lens L<SP>1</SP> converges the beams at the centre of the main lens L. In a modification, Fig. 5 (not shown), the outer cathodes are inclined to the axis to provide the convergence and the lens L<SP>1</SP> acts only as a prefocusing lens; each cathode is surrounded by its own G1 grid operated at substantially the same potential as its cathode.
