Abstract

1278235 Colour television tubes SONY CORP 24 Aug 1970 [23 Aug 1969] 40680/70 Heading HID In a multi-beam colour television tube, increased brightness is obtained without increasing the size of the beam and thereby degrading the picture by using a plurality of beams for each colour. In Fig. 3, electrons from a cathode K B are formed into two beams by aligned apertures in grids G1 and G2 and converged by a lens (L S ) on to the centre of the main focusing lens (L M ). The beams follow divergent paths from main lens and pass through an electrostatic convergence system C S which converges the two beams at a common spot on the screen S. The tube is of the three-beam type wherein the two outer groups of beams diverge from the main focusing lens (L M ) and pass through an electrostatic convergence system C which converges the three groups of beams on a parallax grid A G in front of the screen S; in Fig. 3, each group comprises two beams, and in a modification (Figs. 6-8, not shown) each group comprises three beams. The electrostatic convergence system C may be replaced by a magnetic one (Fig. 9, not shown).
