Abstract
514,335. Electron multipliers. BAIRD TELEVISION, Ltd. (Fernseh Akt.-Ges.). May 3, 1938, No. 13174. [Class 39 (i)] The envelope 1 is divided into two or more portions by at least one partition 5 formed of insulating material which mechanically prevents the passage of electrons or ions and is provided with an aperture through which the main electron stream passes, the aperture being covered by an electron permeable electrode. Effects of-stray electrons and positive ions are eliminated. The partition 5 may be an annular - glass ring sealed to the envelope or an inward bulge formed in the envelope itself. The permeable electrode may be secondary-emitting as well as electrodes 4 (grids or foils). Two partitions are shown, but one may be provided between each secondary-emitting electrode. To facilitate insertion of the electrode system from, say, the right hand end of the envelope, all the electrodes to the left of a partition are made smaller than the aperture in it: as each permeable electrode is made larger than the aperture it covers, the apertures in the partitions increase in diameter from left to right. The cathode 2 may be photo-electric, or thermionic with control grid.
