Abstract

475,995. Image dissectors. ZEISS IKON AKT.-GES. Dec. 31, 1936, No. 35862. Convention date, March 24. [Class 39 (i)] Electrons emanating from the aperture 3 of the diaphragm 2 of an image dissector are multiplied by secondary emission at successive cathodes 4 .. 6 before collection at an output electrode 10. The electrons from the cathodes 4 .. 6 may be given curved paths as shown by a transverse magnetic field or successive cathodes may be opposed, Fig. 2 (not shown), the. common enclosing envelope A being then cylindrical with the aperture 3 eccentric in the diaphragm 2. The cathodes 4 .. 6 may be photo-electric and the electrode 10 may be replaced by an ionization chamber giving an output current depending on the number of the electrons received. The cathode 1 of the dissector is a thin caesium-silver oxide layer on glass coated with metal. The electrodes 1 .. are joined by a resistance layer on the envelope A surrounding the space in which the electron image from the cathode 1 is deflected.
