Abstract

517,756. Cathode-ray tubes. ELECTRICAL RESEARCH PRODUCTS, Inc. Feb. 13, 1939, No. 4616. Convention date, Feb. 19, 1937. [Class 39 (i)] In a tube of the iconoscope type a cylindrical electrode, at a lower positive potential than the focusing anode, is placed between the anode and the screen to prevent secondary electrons derived from the anode from reaching the screen. In the arrangement shown the focusing anode 19 consists of a cylinder 27 of greater diameter than the controlling electrode 21 and a cylinder 28 of the same diameter as the controlling electrode the two being connected by a transverse plane portion 26. The cylindrical electrode 20 is of larger diameter than either and is connected to a conducting lining 11 in the neck of the tube and the envelope. The anode 19 is maintained at a potential about 3,000 volts above that of the cathode and the electrode 20 at 800 or 900 volts below the electrode 19. The plates 13 and 14 of one pair of deflecting plates and those 15, 16 of the other are connected through resistances 36, 37 respectively and the mid points of these resistances are connected to the electrode 20. The screen may be made as described in Specification 474,591. Specification 493,882 also is referred to.
