Abstract
493,882. Cathode-ray tubes. LUBCKE, H. R. April 17, 1937, No. 11038. [Class 39 (i)] The grid 13 of a cathode-ray tube is in the form of a truncated cone with its apex towards the cathode. The cathode is in the form of two coaxial cylinders 5, 6 connected by a conical surface 7, being supplied with heating current through leads 9, 11 ; it is so proportioned that the resistances from the junction of the surfaces 6, 7 to either lead is the same, and the interior of the cylinder 6 is coated with emissive substances, the rear end of the cylinder being either open, or closed and similarly coated. The grid 13 is shaped as shown and is at an average potential negative with respect to the cathode. A tubular anode 17, surrounded by a disc 16 is followed by an annular disc 18, at a negative potential with respect to the anode. The deflecting plates are arranged to diverge and the first pair 22, 23 are only sufficiently broad to prevent disturbance by their edge effects. Fig. 2 shows a modification in which the disc 18 is replaced by a tube and disc 51 and a conical electrode 49, the electrodes 13, 49 being connected together and the electrode 51 being at half the potential of the anode 15 with respect to the cathode.
