Abstract
564,003. Electron lenses. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. April 30, 1943, No. 6854. Convention date, May 7, 1942. [Class 39 (i)] An electron lens of small diameter and great focal length comprises two cylinders 5, 6 of equal diameter D spaced apart axially a distance S such that the ratio S/D is greater than a quarter. Preferably, the ratio is between 0.5 and 3.0, the most useful range being 0.75 to 1.25 including the value unity. The positive potential V2 applied to 6 may be between 1 and 10 times, preferably less than 5 times, that (V1) applied to 5. The other elements of the cathode-ray tube shown are cathode 1, heat shield 2, concentrating electrode 4 and anode 3, electrodes 3, 4, 5 and 6 being supported on insulating rods 7, 8. The relation between the focal length, the magnification and the voltage ratio V2/V1 is shown graphically.
