Abstract

853,058. Cooling electron discharge tubes. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Feb. 13, 1957, No. 4976/57. Class 39(1). The external anode 2 of a discharge tube 1 is adapted for evaporative cooling by providing grooves 12 extending circumferentially round the outside of the anode. These may be formed separately or as a single continuous helical groove (e.g. by turning a screw-thread). Alternatively, the grooves may be formed in a thin sleeve which is fitted over the anode. The grooves preferably have the shape and proportions shown in Fig. 3. Specifications 706,209 and 797,117 are referred to.
